Car Polisher Buffer – Choosing a Buffing Pad
An electric car polisher is also sometimes called a car polisher buffer or simply a car buffer, mainly because it uses a buffing pad to get the polishing done.
Indeed, a dual action polisher and a rotary polisher may work in different ways when it comes to polishing your car, but they both make use of car buffing pads or buffer polishing pads, which are not that hard to find.
Usually, a car polisher buffer already comes with at least one or two buffing pads, but eventually, you will have to buy new ones to replace these. When this time comes, you can just try to purchase the same one you had initially or try to look for something that works even better.
Buffing pads come in a variety of sizes, though they are mostly round in shape. The most common sizes are 6 to 7 1/2 inches, since the smaller ones tend to be too small and the larger ones tend to cause swirls as they move along the surface.
There are two basic types of buffing pads available – wool pads and foam pads. Wool pads are preferred because the fibers can remove scratches and other damages to the paint more effectively while foam pads rely on the heat of the car polisher buffer to get its job done, and are better suited for covering up minor damages or for the final finishing touches.
Wool pads can be further classified into various types. There are some made of four-ply yarn, some made of genuine lambs wool and some that are made of a combination of natural and synthetic fibers. Lamb wool pads are the most expensive, yet are the ones recommended by professionals because they contain a natural oil called lanolin that aids the buffing process.
There are different types of foam pads available, too, like those with a flat surface and those with a waffle-like surface and those that have small pores and large pores.
Buffing pads come in different colors, too, though there is no standard as to which color refers to what, so you have to read the label carefully.
