Porter Cable Polisher
To most people, PC refers to a personal computer or a computer machine that isn’t a Mac. To car enthusiasts, however, it stands for something else, namely the Porter Cable polisher 7424.
Porter Cable is a company that has been around since 1906, established by R.E. Porter, G.G. Porter and F.E. Cable in Syracuse, New York. At first, their shop offered tire pumps, gas lighters, pencil sharpeners and machine tools then in 1914, started focusing on making excellent power tools, something the company is still known for.
Indeed, Porter Cable is best known for its nailers, sanders, drills, planers, saws and other air tools, but it also manufactures some excellent equipment for cars, like a 12volt air compressor for filling up tires and an electric polisher for giving any car that dazzling storeroom finish.
The Porter Cable polisher 7424 is a dual action polisher, which means it is easy to use. In particular, it is a random orbit polisher with a variety of speeds, reaching up to 6,000 orbits per minute, which is very fast.
Its spindle thread accepts 5/16-24 screw threads, which is a size that’s easy to find at any hardware store, and it also has spiral or bevel gears and a 100% ball and roller bearing construction for enhanced durability.
The spinning wheel of the polisher measures 6 inches in diameter while the entire machine is close to 12 inches long and 10.5 inches wide while weighing less than six pounds, which still makes it a relatively compact tool.
The tool is powered by 120 volts so you can plug it into any standard outlet and the motor only uses up 4 amps to get its job done.
The whole package includes an operating manual which explains how to use the Porter Cable polisher in detail, as well as a polishing pad, a wrench and a side handle which you can attach to the tool to make it easier to maneuver across the surface of the area you are polishing.
The Porter Cable polisher is a popular tool, both among professionals and amateurs who say that it is easy to assemble, applies an even coat of polish and is easy to clean after use.
Aside from the 7424, Porter Cable has also introduced the 7424XP, which is an improvement on the previous model. This polisher also has variable speeds but it can go faster, up to 6,800 orbits per minute, and comes with a six-inch proprietary counter balance.
